Workshop Upgrade!

We are upgrading our workshop with a new 16 foot rip fence which will allow us to rip 8x4 boards on the length. You can see at the top of the picture the heat-treated timber storage, underneath that is a 50x50mm steel square section which is 4900mm long. This will form the rip fence, mounted parallel to the table saw blade.

The rip fence allows us to push material through the saw while keeping one side straight and parallel to the saw blade, making fast and accurate cuts.

Up until now we had the capacity to rip up to 122cm behind the blade, which is fine for cutting panels across the width, but we didn’t have the space to push them through on the length. In order to do that, we needed 244cm in front of and also behind the saw blade: there needs to be space to take the full board on both ends. In order to accommodate this we had to move the end wall of the workshop to get the required space.

When complete we will have the capacity to process large sheet material more easily, watch this space!
